Latin (Botanical) name: Chrozophora tinctoria (L.) A. Juss. ex Spreng.

 

Family: Euphorbiaceae.

 

Common name: Croton, Faqqoos el-homaar.

 

Origin: Egypt

 

Plant description:

EUPHORBIACEAE A. Juss. Flowers otherwise. Plant with stellate hairs.

CHROZOPHORA Neck. ex A. Juss. Herbs or undershrubs covered with stellate indumentum. Flowers in spike-like racemes, upwards numerous sessile male flowers, below a few pedicelled female flowers. Stamens 4-15 with filaments joined into a column. Ovary 3-celled with 3 bifid or parted styles, cells 1-seeded.

Capsule glabrous, scaly, tubercled, stamens 4-10 (rarely up to 12), in 1-2 whorls. Seeds scabrous-tubercled, fruit-pedicels elongated reflexed. Annual herbs. Stamens 10 (rarely 11-12), leaves thinly hairy, repand-dentate.

CHROZOPHORA TINCTORIA (L.) A. Juss. ex Spreng. : Leaves thin-woolly, rhombical or triangular, mostly obtuse and repand-dentate. (Ann.).
