Latin (Botanical) name: Chenopodium murale L. = Chenopodium triangulare Forssk.

 

Family: Chenopodiaceae

 

Common name: Chenopodium, Nettleleaf goosefoot, Nettle-leaf goosefoot, Nettle-leaved goosefoot, Lisaan et-teir (et-thor), Qehaniya, Qeihaniya, Abu’efein (‘efeina), Fiss el-kelb (kilaab) Sontaar, Fatteeh, Shagaret el-motteina, Fisseih, Fosseish, Sakaraan, Sekraan.

 

Origin: Egypt

 

Plant description:

CHENOPODIACEAE Vent. : Leaves flat, broad. Herbs. Fruit surrounded by narrow, almost free perianth-segments, connate at the base only. Flowers small, numerous, in crowded head-like clusters, these spiked or racemed (rarely flowers solitary, then pedicelled).

CHENOPODIUM L. : Flowers very small, perfect, in head-like clusters. Perianth 5-parted, unchanged in fruit. Annual weeds with alternate, petioled, flat leaves. Leaves dentate or cleft, at least the lower ones. No odo(u)r. Leaves broader ; erect plants. Leaves densely and sharply dentate.

CHENOPODIUM MURALE L.  (= chenopodium triangulare Forssk.) : Leaves triangular with tapering base, densely and sharply dentate. Flower-clusters small, globular, in rich cymose panicles. (Ann.). Weed.

v. microphyllum Boiss. : Leaves small with short teeth.
