description: LEGUMINOSAE
A. Juss. Flowers irregular, papilionaceous, with standard, keel and wings
(Papilionoideae). Leaves 3 foliolate. Leaflets not stipuled. Withered corolla
persistent, hiding the small legume, flowers in dense heads or spikes. Herbs
TRIFOLIUM L. Leaves 3 foliolate. Flowers in dense heads (in reality a much
contracted spike, raceme or umbel). Legume small, indehiscent, covered by the
persistent withered corolla or calyx. Fruit-calyx not inflated. Flowers
white. Stem erect. Stem glabrous or subglabrous. Leaflets narrow, elliptic.
TRIFOLIUM ALEXANDRINUM L.: Tall erect herb with narrow elliptical leaflets.
Herds dense, not umbel-like, flowers white. Annual. Cultivated. Also
completely naturalized in the places enumerated. Source:
