~ Subclass ARCHICHLAMYDEAE. Perianth of free parts or absent.

ZYGOPHYLLACEAE. Mostly xerophytic shrubs with opposite leaves ; flowers bisexual, regular ; stamens usually 10 with ligular appendages at base ; ovary 5-loculed of 5 carpels ; capsule or schizocarp of indehiscent cocci, rarely berry.
