Latin (Botanical) name: Matricaria recutita L., Matricaria chamomilla L.

 

Family: Compositae, Asteraceae.

 

Common name: Chamomile blue, chamomile, chamomille, camomile, camomille, matricaria, matricaire, chamomilla, baboonig, baboonag.

 

Method of extraction: Steam distilled from dried flowers, crashed flowers or powdered, green flowers and leaves (flowering tops), fruits (seeds).

 

Origin: Egypt.

 

Uses: Herbal (Traditional) medicine (dosage), Flavor, Fragrance and Aromatherapy (bath, massage, skin, hair, steam inhalation, vaporization, etc.).

 

Specific gravity: 0.8995 - 0.97 at 25ºC.

 

Refractive index: 1.480 - 1.5055 at 25ºC.

 

Perfumery note: Middle.

 

Plant description:

COMPOSITAE Giseke: All, or at least the central flowers tubular. Tubuliflorac. Heads all of the same kind. Leaves unarmed. The same spineless but not forming a tube. Pappus otherwise. With radiating ligulate margin-flowers or heads discoid. Stem wingless, or (in a few genera) absent. Leaves alternate. Pappus scarious or absent. Ray-flowers present. Achenes not involved in fleece. Ray-flowers white. Receptacle naked ; glabrous herbs with capillary leaves. Ray-flowers absent. Annuals. Yellow-flowered. Glabrous herbs. Achene with short or no wing ; leafy high up. MATRICARIA L. Glabrous annual herbs with scarious involucre and often capillary leaves. Heads more or less conical with naked receptacle, ray-florets white or absent. Achenes terete, inner face 3-5-ribbed, pappus crown-like or absent. With white ray-florets MATRICARIA RECUTITA L. (= MATRICARIA CHAMOMILLA L.): Fragrant herb with finely dissected capillary leaves.
